Date of Eagle Scout Award:  September 28,1983

Age when you became an Eagle Scout: 15

Years as a scout in the troop: 1980-1986

(and continuing as adult and current scoutmaster)

Eagle project:

Created a catalog of  the cemetary ajacent to the south side of St Paul’s UCC.   My helpers and I pulled all of the pertinate information off of all of the tombstones in the cemetary and I assigned each person a number.  I then created an index card for each person with the information on them and put them in alphabetical order to help people locate their loved ones in the cemetary.  I also created a large map to help locate each stone's position in the cemetary.

What does your Eagle Scout award mean to you?

I have been through many different situations in my life that I have had to draw upon the skills I learned on the trail to Eagle.  I feel that it has helped me to be a better person and has helped me to give back to my community through Scouting and other activities.  One of the things that was mentioned during my presentation, was the fact that earning Eagle wasn't the end of the trail, but the beginning of a new one.  I have continued to give the time and skills that were given to me so many years ago to many other young men that have come through the troop.  One of the greatest things for me, is being able to present an Eagle Scout award to a young man who has earned the right to wear it.  It gives me great pride that the time I am spending is going to a good cause-teaching young men to be great young men.”

Has your Scouting experience or Eagle Scout award helped you in life? Describe how:

“Over the course of the last 23 years, I have been complimented numerous times and I have been told that being an Eagle Scout earned me a position in a new job on two separate occasions.  There have been many times that scout skills have helped me through tough situations.  I can honestly say that there aren't too many weather situations that I haven't camped through, either as a Scout or as a leader, and the knowledge I gained during my youth has greatly helped me keep the scouts in the troop safe now.”
